Possibly the initiation process for that assassin’s guild Tanica was a part of in addition to other things, memories are never truly lost, only repressed and made difficult to access. I love her phoenix wings

Probably because she hasn’t been this determined or in danger before, at least not since the egg was used on her, basically her adrenaline levels are through the roof, being reminded of what she was, rather than tear her down, drove her further and without the eliminator to give her a false target, she is more focused and powerful than she has ever been in the past.

But yes, I had a thought that, while it would take more work (as I do not understand website code and how comics work within them), might look really cool. You see that stray beam of magic that breaks the comic border at the bottom? You should have the same effect expand well beyond the left border as well, but more than just a random streak of color.
Would save you from having to draw Ye olde Shaman (if you were indeed including her) and would really drive home the power within Elka. Hopefully yonder ethereal flame wings will also have that awesome glow effect.

Holy shit! Elka as a glorious, quasi-angelic phoenix healer! Totally badass! It makes a lot of sense, though – thematically as well as in-universe … she rose from the ashes of her old self after great sacrifice, perhaps absorbing the Phoenix (in the archetypal sense) when she was healed by the egg.
Shelinda will end up sacrificing to close the portal; i’m calling it now.

Elka was very nearly her own Eliminator. She felt worthless, like everything she had ever tried to do was a failure, and she let herself be used as an assassin just to pay her student loans. I have to imagine that the Eliminator just made her re-live her attempts to find a job based on her first college degree, then her attempts to major in something more commercially valuable. The climactic event that made her go for somebody’s throat might have been a suggestion that she should re-join the Trsanti as “that’s all you’re good for” or some such.

If her Eliminator dream was anything like Greg’s, she saw someone taunting her about how useless she used to be. We can’t really know who it was, but I think it would be most hurtful if it was someone who had been very supportive. I think if she saw Aki of all people telling her she was worthless, that might be the worst.
