If this seems a bit too cutesy, it might be because Jack and Blue are both trying to find something nice to concentrate on to distract them from the nasty business they both just suffered at the hands of Cary.
What IS the Auric? You might already be able to guess…but spelling it out is for later, of course. Also: even bad guys have loved ones. Cary and Max seem like a cute couple when they’re not doing evil.
“Bad guy taunts the authorities” is kind of a cliche, but Cary loves indulging in dramatic stuff like that.
