The Valley Curse (or the Sunset Island Curse, as it’s known here) has different effects on people. Some people get taller or shorter, etc. or their hair changes a bit…it’s not a direct cloneage of who they were as a guy. This is because their former Y chromosome is imitating what the X might have been if they’d gotten it from their dad.

Ooh, I like the “substituting the Y chromosome from Dad for a possible X chromosome from the same” explanation – and it’s super nifty that what looked like a nonsensical throwaway gag of female-Cary being taller is actually justified.
That sounds like an awesome and straightforward effect that I’ve wondered about for a long time enacted by some kind of probability magic whose processes I can’t wrap my head around. Bleh, it’s like physics class all over again.
