JUST SO YOU KNOW: I’m working several consecutive 12-hour shifts which means the next comic might be late. I apologize. I’m cutting a lot of corners to be able to give you the next one by Saturday at the latest. I hate putting you through all this but very soon you’ll know one way or the other whether or not Mori can get out of this one.

Holy cow. A demon that can see through the fourth wall! Where have we seen that before? (Looks at Drowtales.com.)
Well, I really don’t know what to think about this. If your intention was to make me feel uncomfortable and unnerved, then you very much succeeded. All of the Dragon Doctors are apparently dead, the human race is being threatened by creatures that thrive off unrealized potential, and they have an enormous advantage by being able to literally break the fourth wall. This is practically Lovecraftian, and that’s very unusual for this story. I love this comic and I’ll keep reading to see what happens, but this has seriously blindsided me.
It was kind of my intention to blindside everyone because up until now the demons have been very well hidden and we only had Cary’s assurance that they were real. Cary is most likely still going to be the ultimate foe but we needed to see just how serious she is about her enemies.
You succeeded in that, that much I can tell you.
As for any possible delays: Don’t worry about being late with the odd comic or two. We, well I at the least, will rather wait a few days more than either getting something you as the creator are not happy with at all or you overworking yourself and not getting enough rest.
Silly demon, monologuing never solved anything. Neither Mori nor anyone who would create Mori as an imaginary friend could let the demons achieve their agenda unopposed. If Mori’s real, then she owes it to the world to keep existing. If she isn’t, the girl imagining her just heard that giving up on her dreams will a) prevent her from saving any lives and b) cause a chain-reaction of fourth-wall-breaking that helps evil demons breed.
You can’t crush a dream by convincing the dream it’s wrong. You have to convince the dreamer. Besides, the demon is missing something in his fourth-wall-breaking analysis: even if he destroys Mori, _we_ know she was there. It will never be as if she never was. Letting Mori know her possible passing was witnessed by another entity was definitely a mistake on the demon’s part.
Plus it’s assuming that it’s listen potentials are the ones that will come about. Mari might never become a doctor, instead she might become a writer herself or just a person who lives a good life and inspires others. Of course since it’s a multi-layered reality entity it’d most likely try to force those outcomes. But then really Mori should really, really react to hearing that monologue to us. Or maybe hear us however faint say, “Get. Up.”
No, That’s not what we should be yelling. “Get Up. Mori you still have a chance, a choice. Struggle as all things that Live must. Struggle because you out of ALL BEINGS KNOW YOU DO MATTER. You inspire and lead, you ARE Mori. We do not weave your world, we do not tell your tale. All we can do is support those that are, to lend them our hopes and well wishes when possible. And you we watch when we can, we watch your hopes and sorrows. Your Love and joys. Get Up Mori. Get up while you can. Scream out I AM and take back what was robbed from you. Take back yourself. Take back your chance to save the ones your love most. Make that choice or sink back into void before your time. GET UP AND LIVE” … Or something along those lines.

Although on a lighter note, I’m wondering why the screenwriter is part-animal as a teen but not as an adult. Therianthropy? Her race’s life cycle? Ordinary human who just happened to have been transformed that day? In her natural form, but daydreaming about possible future forms as well as professions?
…probably the first one, but the other ones actually all occurred to me first for whatever reason.

If Mori being a fictional character that only exists in the minds of her creators means that she isn’t real, there is one conclusion.
YOU ARE NOT REAL EITHER!
Thus, by necessity, Mori exists.
I actually have a bit of a theory: demons are real…but only because we imagine them to be real. We can’t will them out of existence by saying they aren’t real. The demons might stem from our imagination, but cannot be terminated. Yet they can be weakened–managed, controlled, left powerless, by the very forces that created them. Just so long as we fight back.
Hmm. the readers got powers too right? yet more we read and yet more we do want to support the characters we like. So there is hoping that she will do a huge comeback and kick that demon’s ass. “Perhaps i don’t exist. but my readers do believe i exist or want me to exist.” hmm.

I liked the black and white version a little better -the crowd of demons were more interesting.
