I don’t think it’s cheap. It does make sense with Sarin, she’s not the kind of person who would leave such an opening that killed someone with the same skill set. My only issue is lack of knowledge on contingencies.
kind of curious, was sarins master ever mentioned to be killed like this before, or is mori adding this to the story to give sarin a reason for this contingency
Mist! Can’t vaporize something that’s already vapor! (sorry, original posting was a misprint, Mori was supposed to say that) We’ve seen Sarin using mist at least once before, in a flashback.
Those in the time dilation field: They have eons to figure out a way to open it from the inside, and probably have met the people who erected it in the first place.
Kili: “Silver, seriously? The connection between werewolves and silver was invented by Hollywood. It’s Demons that blessed silver is supposed to kill.
Actually the Arabian method of curing a werewolf which is the act of striking the forehead with a knife in order to cure someone of lycanthropy was the basis for the “silver” weakness of werewolves in popular media. However the earliest “weaknesses”, not “cures” of werewolfism are all plant based including Wolfsbane and Mistletoe.
Not that one, the one in the Arabian werewolf cure that Hollywood supposedly got the “silver kills” thing from. So far as I can tell it wouldn’t matter what metal the knife was.
I have theories… hundreds of them, but most of them are rather insane and best kept to myself. Though I will say that one of them has something to do with tacos.
Well. Sarin was a paraniod guy when she was Young. so i won’t be surprised that she is a crazyprepared wizard. it simply is just Sarin to be like this.
I admit, I had forgotten about Sarin’s stoneskin contingency. (If the mentor-disintegration thing came up before, I’ve still forgotten it, but I’m okay with it either way.)

“I’m a total magical badass” being killed easily just wouldn’t fit
I agree, it is only logical that she has such a contingincy after her master was killed that way.

That makes sense: which form is it?

Aha!
I think you’re being so original with this metaplot that you could skirt WAY closer to the edges than this. This is awesome.
I think I know how the others survived.

Does it specify that the knife is silver?
Yes. Read few pages back.

They don’t actually have eons unless they can either create food and water (and possibly air), or transform into species that don’t require either.

You’re one of those people who wear tinfoil bow ties, aren’t you?
Not exactly what I had in mind, but something similar.
Well. Sarin was a paraniod guy when she was Young. so i won’t be surprised that she is a crazyprepared wizard. it simply is just Sarin to be like this.
This isn’t cheap. It’s using established character traits and staying in character for the various characters involved.
Also, Sarin IS a certified magical badass.
And now I’m worried that Sarin will be unconscious and no one available will have the key to undoing her stoneskin for the surgeons : (
