Another schedule shift resulted in lateness and this comic not being finished at time of publication, forgive me. I had a hard time motivating myself this week. I didn’t like how the last comic went over like a lead balloon either…*shrug* It’s always the little things…
I thought the last comic was pretty good, actually. I’m sorry I didn’t say so at the time.
This one is pretty good as well.
Indeed it is.
Here’s the point where everyone finds out how long a powerful wizard can live…
I’m going to go with not all that long… power attracts foes. And eventually one of them will get lucky. A skilled wizard who lurks below the radar will likely last longer. With Rejuvination and other life-extending techniques, think getting old isn’t a problem from those willing to work to avoid it. Death tends to come in violence.
I generally concur. Though it’s not necessarily the power that becomes the problem here. But the fame that often comes with it. If you can avoid that, your life will be quieter and probably safer.
Of course fame can also come to your advantage in certain situations. For example some muggers not even trying to bother you, fearing your overwhelming power. But it will attract stronger foes, be it out of envy, curiousity, paranoia, greed or whatever reason. And it will attract petitioners who want to recruit your help against such foes that you wouldn’t have encountered otherwise.
First off, I’m not worried about schedule slippage … life happens. Second, damn good comic … makes some damn good points. And third, I’d say that those lessons aren’t mutually exclusive.
I can’t wait to see if this place is a real one or not. And yeah, lovely that realizing that factoid gets praised…
Not SO different from what happens in China … only in China they don’t have magic.
Heh. They boh win cookies for that last panel. Eerily reminiscent of every other chat with my dad…
I think the major lesson from this story is “think longterm”. Those others may be useful as well, but shortterm thinking and planing is the MOST fatal flaw ever. Also, very common for politicians: “Après nous le déluge” – “After us, the deluge”.
Is the country in question a reference to china, where they aborted girls and now the country has a male surplus?
