Okay, so I spent much of the day down at the auto shop because my car smelled like gas when I drove it. Turned out I had a corroded fuel line and they’ll need to completely tear the car apart to replace it. And I have to prepare for an emergency midnight-to-morning shift tonight which means I need to spend right now on sleeping instead of colorizing comics. Dammit. So that’s what’s up with no new content today.

Speedball, I just discovered this comic, and I have read through all the archives. Once “TheDuck” went back up I read through everything there as well so I am fully up-to-date.
I like this comic a lot! The art is rather crude, but I’m okay with that, and the coloring helps a lot. A really good web comic should combine good story with good art, but if one has to dominate it should be the story. I have stopped reading some web comics that have really excellent art because I’m disappointed by the story, but the reverse doesn’t happen. The story in this comic is really good!
Also, while the art is crude, it is effective at telling the story. It’s a serious problem if the reader can’t tell what’s going on, but that’s never a problem with the art in this comic. Please notice that I keep calling your art “crude” but I’m not calling it “bad”.
I think the concept of “the crax” is brilliant, and the storylines involving it were perfectly executed. The shamanic journey to talk to the man the crax used to be was great. Some of the offbeat medical disorders are nifty; my favorite was “recursive auto-casting”. I greatly enjoyed your ideas of the country of Thoria, and the various practical uses for turning people to stone (e.g. long-term prisoner storage). Most importantly, I like your characters and I care what happens to them, and you treat your own characters with the proper respect.
So, please keep up the good work. I won’t tell you not to work on your art skill, but I will say not to worry about it too much, and I’d rather see the comics keep coming than see you slow down a lot while working on art.

P.S. I usually name computers after female characters from fantasy or science fiction… now I’m going to name some computers “Kili”, “Goro”, etc. 🙂

I found DD by a banner advertisement shown on one of the other web comics I read. Sorry, don’t remember which one.
Some of my existing computer names:
Uhura (firewall — all communications go through Uhura)
Dax (email server — named after Jadzia Dax on Deep Space 9)
Xena (a server running a hypervisor called “Xen”)
Lyta (an SSH server — communications, named after Lyta Alexander from Bablyon 5)
River (a laptop, small but mighty, named after River Tam from Firefly)
I don’t have any shamanic computers, but I guess “Kili” would be a good name for a media server (one could say it serves up dreams). “Goro” would be a good name for any really powerful computer. “Sarin” would be a good name for a computer hooked up to a 3D printer or CNC milling machine! “Mori” would be a good name for a file server.
Must have been Sluggy Freelance, I spent some money to have a banner ad on that about a month ago.
A shamanistic computer would probably have to be named after the cyber-shaman from the Fourth Breaking interlude comic…that’s what she was made for, after all. To provide an objective bridge to the entirely SUBjective data of the spirit world.
